Â黨ÊÓƵ University (WNE) has been accepted as an of the FinTech Open Source Foundation (FINOS), becoming only the third university worldwide to earn membership in the organization. Joining Columbia University and Yeshiva University, WNE now stands alongside some of the world's leading financial institutions, technology companies, and innovators working to advance the future of financial services through open-source technology.

FINOS, part of the Linux Foundation, is a global nonprofit organization that brings together financial services firms, fintech companies, and technology leaders to collaboratively develop open technologies and industry standards that enhance innovation, improve resilience, and address shared challenges across the financial sector.

For WNE, acceptance into FINOS represents both a significant distinction and a strategic opportunity to expand research, industry partnerships, and experiential learning opportunities for students.

"Our acceptance into FINOS is an exciting milestone for Â黨ÊÓƵ University," said Charles Mutigwe, associate professor of Business Analytics and Information Management. "It validates the innovative work our faculty and students are doing at the intersection of fintech, artificial intelligence, and open-source technologies. Through FINOS, our students and researchers will have opportunities to collaborate with leading financial institutions while contributing to projects that are shaping the future of financial services."

As a FINOS member, WNE will contribute to several industry initiatives, including Fluxnova, an open-source business process orchestration platform designed to support intelligent, standards-based financial workflows. The University's fintech team is already leveraging Fluxnova in collaboration with a Chicopee-based insurance brokerage to develop an agentic AI solution that supports customer service operations through voice, text, and email communications.

The project integrates Fluxnova with a PostgreSQL database, open-weight large language models, and other open-source technologies to automate and enhance customer interactions while maintaining transparency, auditability, and interoperability. The platform's support for industry standards such as Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) and Decision Model and Notation (DMN) aligns closely with concepts taught in WNE's BAIM 202 Introduction to Business Information Systems course, where all College of Business sophomores are introduced to business process management and workflow modeling.

WNE also plans to contribute to OSERA (Open Source Enterprise Resiliency Alliance), a FINOS initiative focused on improving the security and resilience of open-source software. The University's involvement builds on ongoing research into open-source software supply chain security led by Mutigwe in collaboration with Professor Sergey Butakov of WNE's Department of Computer Science, Professor Johnson Kinyua of Penn State University, and Ashwini Kumar Rath of Batoi.

WNE's acceptance into FINOS reflects years of leadership in fintech education and research. The University has demonstrated a commitment to open-source innovation through its annual Open Finance Conference, the co-located International Conference on Open Finance, and its open finance newsletter. Faculty across disciplines routinely incorporate open-source tools and technologies into both teaching and research, helping students develop skills that are highly relevant to today's technology-driven economy.

Through its FINOS membership, WNE students and faculty will gain access to a global network of industry practitioners, researchers, and technology leaders. The partnership provides opportunities to collaborate on real-world projects, contribute to open-source initiatives, and engage directly with organizations that are shaping the future of financial services technology.

WNE has also made significant investments in fintech and artificial intelligence education through its FinTech Incubator, which supports workforce development, entrepreneurship, applied research, and industry collaboration. The initiative provides students with hands-on learning opportunities while connecting businesses, startups, and researchers with resources that advance innovation throughout Massachusetts and beyond.

The announcement comes as WNE continues to strengthen its position as a regional leader in fintech and artificial intelligence. FINOS Chief Operating Officer Jane Gavronsky and FINOS Chief Executive Officer Gabriele Columbro are participating in the AIAI 2026 Conference at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, creating opportunities to deepen the relationship between WNE and leaders of the global open finance community.

By joining FINOS, Â黨ÊÓƵ University further strengthens its growing reputation in fintech, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and applied research. The membership creates new opportunities for students and faculty to contribute to globally significant open-source initiatives while collaborating with organizations that are defining the future of financial services, enterprise technology, and digital innovation.
